In the first part of our blog posts, you have met already Gala Rachmilevitch. Now the second part of Gala’s story.
“When I was 20, I decided: I will change the world – how naive of me.” No other woman should suffer due to their weight.Thickness children should be happy children and grow up to be fat teenagers and self-confident women. Women can do and be what they want. Even though I had lost my childhood, I didn’t want that others have the same experience. Everyone should know that he or she is fantastic and impressive, even though he or she is thick. Everyone should know that he or she can be anything and do. The weight determines not who is, for example, Mrs. Since the Israeli fashion industry did not accept me, I created a new fashion industry. I built up a fashion world i.e. people who were thick, large or small – for people who were “not good enough”, or as they say “ugly”. I fought with the media, so that published article with plus size models and “real” women. I struggled with Fashion designers to dress sizes. I had success. The new fashion industry is a reality. Now I’m buyer, fashion consultant, personal stylist, stylist for magazines and journalist of many magazines. Also my own styling , I founded Academy.
Two years ago, I was raped. I was broken, I wanted to die. I felt defeated. All my life we always had quipped that I will probably be the only girl who is raped not because I’m fat. It was brutal and completely surprised me. It slowed me out. I had the feeling to be back 8 years old and found that I had to fight harder to really change the world. For 28 years, people “You can’t be anything” tell me – that has left its mark. Now it was said to me: live or die. “It was the only way: change the world and to fight for really big changes or to go home and bury me.”
Plus Size Fashion Weekend With 7,500 Women – And The Media Turned Out!
“I chose to change the fight around the world. One and a half years ago, I called the PLUS SIZE FASHION WEEKEND TLV in Israel in life.Without sponsors, without any famous brands. I spoke to many small plus size fashion brands and designers and held the PSFW in Tel Aviv. It was crazy! We had no money for advertising, and no one wanted to report on it. Nevertheless 7,500 women from across the country came to Tel Aviv to shop, to see the fashion show and have fun. The media went crazy. No one could ignore us more.Suddenly, my customers asked for other events. Many fashion designers had discovered also the plus-size fashion for themselves and made with. Suddenly, the media began to write about us and to talk about curvy women. You could no longer ignore it. It is the largest fashion event in Israel with 9,000 plus size women now and they come from all over the country. However, we have found no large company that would like to sponsor the event. That’s still not sexy or good enough for her.”
Gala Rachmilevitch Brings More Reality In The Fashion Industry
“In the meantime more editorial articles have my styling clients constantly told that they wanted to see more plus size models plus size and reports that address them and not only slim women. After 15 years as a journalist and editor, I took out “style plus” S + magazine. A fashion and lifestyle magazine in Hebrew for women from dress size 42. In Israel, 60% of women wear size 42, and more. I found it incredible that there is no magazine that appeals to these women. So I brought out a magazine .
I am convinced that every woman is great and can do anything, no matter what size their pants. I’m doing everything I can to achieve more and more children and women to support and to teach them that they can be anything and everything is within reach. You should know that even the sky is no limit.
Both the FORBES magazine as also the MAARIVE newspaper have me elected both as one of the most influential women Israel in 2015. I started to teach fashion designers and stylists at fashion schools. I’m still sure that the Israeli media reports about fighting and we are organizing events. “I’m happy about the fact that Israel is the number of designers, the fashion for plus size women create, doubled last year.”
Gala Rachmilevitch Belongs To The Most Influential Women In Israel
„At age 20 I decided that I’m going to change the world (so naïve). I didn’t want any other woman to suffer because of her weight. I want fat children to be happy children and grow-up to be fat teenagers and self confident women. Women who do and be whatever they want. I decided that even if I lost my childhood, I don’t want others to experience the same. I wanted every human being to know that he or she is fabulous and amazing even though they are fat. I want everyone to know that they can be and do whatever they want, and their weight doesn’t define them. As the Israelian fashion industry didn’t ‚accept‘ me, I created a new fashion industry. I built a fashion world for people who weren’t ‚good enough‘ – for people who were fat, tall or small – ‚ugly‘ as they called us. I fought with the media to publish editorials with plus size models and ‚real woman‘. I fought with fashion designers about their clothing sizes. I succeeded in building a new fashion industry. Now I am fashion advisor, buyer of fashion brands, work as a personal stylist, editorial stylist and journalist for many magazines. I have started my own styling academy.
Two years ago I was sexually assaulted. I was broken, I wanted to die. I felt defeated. My whole life we were joking about that I’m probably the only girl who won’t suffer from sexual assault because I’m fat. It was brutal and it took me completely by surprise. It brakes me. It made me feel like I’m 8 years old again and then I realize that I need to fight harder to really change the world. People have been telling me since 28 years that I can’t be anything – it’s left it’s mark. Here at ItypeMBA you can get more different models and styles.
I decided ‚live or die‘ was the only way to go: change the world and fight to change it big time, or go home and die.“

Suddenly my customers asked for more events. In June 2015 another PSFW took place. Fashion designers had discovered plus size fashion and joined up. In December 2015 the second PSFW took place, and even more designers were present. Suddenly the media started to write about us and talk about plus size women. They couldn’t ignore it anymore. It became the biggest fashion event with 9,000 curvy women coming from all over the country. Yet, we still can’t find big companies that will sponsor the event. Gala Rachmilevitch Brings More Reality To The Fashion Industry
„In the meantime my styling customers had consistently been saying that they wanted to see more plus size models, more magazine editorials on plus size and to read articles that address them, and not just skinny women. So after 15 years as a journalist and editor, I created ’style plus‘ S+ magazine, a fashion and life style magazine in Hebrew, for woman size 12 and up.In Israel 60% of the woman are size 12 and up, and I think it’s mind blowing that no magazine writes for them. So I made one.
I really believe that every woman is amazing and can do anything, no matter what her pants size is. I do whatever I can to reach more and more children and women and to support them and to teach them that they can be or do everything. They should know that even the sky isn’t the limit.
FORBES magazine and MAARIVE newspaper both chose me as one of the most influential women in Israel in 2015. I have started to teach fashion designers and stylists in many academic fashion schools. I’m still fighting to make the media in Israel talk about it, and creating fashion events. I’m happy to say that we have doubled the number of fashion designers that create fashion for plus size woman in Israel last year.
